Spiritual Father Spotlight St. Francis of Assisi

St. Francis of Assisi is remembered as a man who traded earthly riches for heavenly treasure. Born into wealth in 12th-century Italy, Francis seemed destined for a comfortable life. Yet after a powerful encounter with Christ, he renounced his inheritance, choosing instead a life of simplicity, prayer, and compassion for the poor.

Francis’ love for creation and all living things flowed from his deep love for the Creator. He believed every creature reflected God’s glory and sang His praise. Through his humility and joy, Francis inspired others to embrace poverty of spirit and total dependence on God.

His life challenges us to look beyond comfort and possessions, and to rediscover the beauty of living fully surrendered to God’s will. St. Francis reminds us that the greatest wealth is found not in what we own, but in how we love.
